Josh Pierson crossed the line to take a maiden victory in IndyNXT, leading every lap at Laguna Seca and banishing the memory of last weekend’s heartbreak at Milwaukee.
Pierson led for the majority of the previous race at Milwaukee Mile, as a spin brought his race to an abrupt end, but the Andretti driver bounced back in style.
It was a race that saw drama for championship contender Tymek Kucharczyk, who saw a chance of staying in championship contention evaporate, after contact from Myles Rowe.
Championship leader Nikita Johnson finished second on the road, to extend his championship lead to 17 points over Enzo Fittipaldi, who was eighth.
After winning for the first time at Milwaukee Mile less than a week before the first race at Laguna Seca, Max Garcia returned to the podium in third.
